About the
course
Jr Sewing course helps students to learn problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, focus and concentration, and fine motor skills. Learning to sew brings out children’s artistic talents as well their mathematical abilities and it is a skill that can be used daily. By the end of the course, learners can confidently work by sewing machines and create essential creative stuff and clothes from scratch.

Scheduling
- Individual classes are 60 minutes and can be scheduled anytime from Saturday to Thursday, between 9 am and 9 pm Pacific Time, based on availability.
- Group classes have a set schedule.

Learning Target
1. Introduction to sewing and pattern drafting tools
- Students will learn about the different types of sewing tools and equipment, including sewing machines, needles, thread, scissors, pins, measuring tapes, and pattern drafting tools.
- Students will learn how to properly use and care for these tools to ensure their safety and the quality of their work.
- Use and troubleshooting of sewing machines
- Students will learn how to set up and operate a sewing machine, including threading the machine, selecting the proper stitch and tension settings, and troubleshooting common issues such as thread breaking or skipped stitches.
2. Measurements
- Students will learn how to take accurate measurements including how to measure bust, waist, hips, and inseam.
- Students will learn how to use these measurements to create patterns and select the correct size for clothing and other sewing projects.
3. Pattern development techniques
- Students will learn how to create their own sewing patterns from scratch, including how to draft patterns using paper and pencil, how to make adjustments to patterns for fit, and how to transfer patterns onto fabric.
4. Kinds of fabrics
- Students will learn about the different types of fabrics available for sewing, including natural and synthetic fabrics, and how to select the right fabric for a specific project based on its properties and the desired finished product.
5. Clothing design ideation
- Students will learn how to brainstorm clothing design ideas, including how to incorporate elements such as color, texture, and fit into their designs.
6. Draping
- Students will learn how to drape fabric on a dress form to create custom clothing designs and patterns.
7. Fabric manipulation techniques
- Students will learn various techniques for manipulating fabric, including pleating, gathering, and ruffling, to add texture and interest to their sewing projects.
8. Cutting
- Students will learn how to properly cut fabric using scissors and rotary cutters, including how to follow a pattern and ensure accurate and precise cuts.
9. Sewing
- Students will practice a variety of sewing techniques, including basic seams, hems, darts, and more, to complete their sewing projects.
